Complete a bachelor's degree in nursing in just one year and advance to a master's program in one of our top-ranked nurse practitioner specialties. Our Accelerated Master's in Nursing Programs for Non-Nurses enable driven students to achieve master's-level nurse practitioner qualifications at a prestigious upstate New York institution. Leverage your prior healthcare background to transition into nursing and specialize as a nurse practitioner through this accelerated pathway.
Successful applicants to this program gain dual admission to both our 12-Month Accelerated Bachelor's in Nursing (ABSN) and the Master's Nurse Practitioner program in their selected specialty. The journey begins with completing the bachelor's nursing degree in one year, followed by NCLEX-RN licensure before progressing to graduate studies. While we typically advise starting with the 12-Month ABSN program alone, this approach lets students explore various specialties before committing to a master's focus while gaining intensive clinical training at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Admission requires a prior non-nursing bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA, plus relevant healthcare experience in your chosen specialty due to the program's competitive nature.
Applications are accepted for spring or summer starts, contingent on completing 21-24 prerequisite credits.
Our Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program equips you to manage adult and elderly patients in critical care environments. As a graduate, you'll provide sophisticated care to acutely ill adults and seniors, preventing complications and guiding patients through complex healthcare scenarios.
Practitioners in this field typically work in intensive care units (including cardiac, surgical, trauma, and neurological ICUs), hospital wards, and specialized outpatient clinics, managing severe illnesses and complex chronic conditions in adult populations.
