Tailored for individuals holding a bachelor's degree outside elementary or secondary education, the M.A./TCP enables you to earn both teacher certification and a master's degree simultaneously. This Health and Physical Education Master of Arts with Teacher Certification Program is ideal for those pursuing initial Rhode Island teaching credentials while completing their graduate studies in Education.

Qualification Requirements
Graduate applicants must have a B.A. or a B.S. with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above(Music students must have a B.A. or a B.M. in music). Most Secondary Education MA/TCP applicants have a B.A. or a B.S. in the content area they hope to teach (i.e. English, Math, History, Biology, etc.).
Graduate applicants with an undergraduate GPA between 2.75-2.99 could be eligible for admission through the conditional acceptance policy. Please email OTE for more information.
Graduate applicants with an undergraduate GPA below a 3.0 may also apply after taking 24 graduate credits and earning a minimum GPA of 3.0.
In addition, please note the following:
Secondary Education applicants: A minimum GPA of 3.0 in your content major (English, Math, etc.)
Music Education applicants: A minimum GPA of 3.0 in Music.
TOEFL iBT - An overall score of 80 or above
Reading: 19 ,Writing: 18, Listening: 17, Speaking: 18
The minimum score on the Paper-based TOEFL is 550.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): All scores must be sent directly to URI. Required minimum score of 6.5, AND minimum scores in the following areas:
Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.5, Listening: 6.5, Speaking: 6.5
Duolingo English Test: Required minimum score of 105
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required minimum score of 6.5. IELTS scores must be sent directly to URI.
