This 15-credit program offers students specialized instruction in applying geospatial technologies to solve location-dependent analytical challenges. The URI Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing (GIS/RS) equips students with advanced skills for tackling spatial problems where geographic position plays a critical role. Environmental concerns inherently involve specific locations and demand accurate earth surface data (including wetlands, aquifers, land use patterns, populations, pollution sources, coastal areas, etc.). Graduates of the URI GIS/RS Certificate program will gain proficiency in sourcing geospatial data, developing standardized spatial databases, conducting geographic analyses, and presenting findings through both numerical and visual formats. Participants can apply their learned techniques through coursework projects and specialized classes covering coastal GIS/RS implementations, oceanic remote sensing, landscape-level applications, and spatial statistics.

Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University. International students are required to have an overall TOEFL score of 80 or more AND meet the minimum in each individual area: Reading 20, Writing 22, Listening 17, Speaking 17.
You will need to provide: (1) college transcripts certifying successful completion of a bachelor's degree, (2) two letters of recommendation from peers, mentors, or colleagues attesting to your ability to complete graduate-level coursework, and (3) a personal written statement explaining why you are seeking a graduate certificate in GIS/RS. GRE's are not required.
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the undergraduate career that can be confirmed with official transcripts from the institution (some programs may require a higher or lower GPA).
TOEFL iBT - An overall score of 80 or above
Reading: 19 ,Writing: 18, Listening: 17, Speaking: 18
The minimum score on the Paper-based TOEFL is 550.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): All scores must be sent directly to URI. Required minimum score of 6.5, AND minimum scores in the following areas:
Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.5, Listening: 6.5, Speaking: 6.5
Duolingo English Test: Required minimum score of 105
