Aquaculture and fisheries are vital for maintaining our planet's sustainability and well-being by supplying food and other resources. This program equips students for careers in professional, technical, academic, or research fields centered on the responsible and eco-friendly production of goods and services from marine and freshwater ecosystems.
Key principles include:
Prioritizing sustainable food production while considering broader ecosystem impacts
Diverse production scales (ranging from small local farms and fisheries to large-scale operations)
Protecting regional traditions and biological diversity while anticipating future needs
The curriculum enables you to specialize in either aquaculture or fisheries based on your career goals while also building a versatile skill set for the workforce (such as scientific diving, small vessel operation, business administration, innovation, economics, policy, oceanography, and environmental sciences) through focused courses within our program and across URI's academic offerings.
