The University of Rhode Island's Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (B.L.A.) is a four-year, 126-credit program accredited by the American Society of Landscape Architects. This curriculum equips students for careers in both public and private sector landscape architecture.
URI's B.L.A. program maintains selective enrollment, with accreditation requirements capping annual admissions at 20 students. Participants undergo two key evaluations: initially for entry into foundational design courses, followed by assessment for advancement into upper-level B.L.A. studies.
Department approval is mandatory for lower-division design coursework. Approximately 50% of available spots go to first-year students maintaining at least a 2.50 GPA with no grades below C in LAR courses. The remaining positions are allocated to URI students transferring from other majors. Upper-division acceptance (junior design sequence) depends on portfolio submission, academic records, and a written statement.
