As a truly worldwide language that holds special significance in local communities, Spanish unlocks opportunities near home, across the nation, and internationally. With 480 million native speakers spanning the Americas, Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe, Spanish connects you to rich cultural diversity, unique identities, and vibrant traditions. You don't need to travel far to experience a country with the world's third-largest Spanish-speaking population—you're already there! Only Mexico and Spain surpass the United States in native Spanish speakers.

URI's Spanish program was carefully crafted with two essential qualities: adaptability and proven outcomes. Our intentionally designed curriculum enables students to complete dual majors or degrees efficiently while maintaining high standards and meeting rigorous learning goals. Whether your focus is pharmacy or philosophy, education or engineering, biology or business, we'll help you cultivate your love for Spanish language and Hispanic cultures alongside your other academic and career pursuits. As you advance through the program's levels, you'll discover courses with diverse interdisciplinary links. Our classes accommodate both students who started learning Spanish in school and those who grew up speaking it at home with family, tailoring to each learner's strengths, interests, and aspirations.
