The Gender and Women's Studies program at URI employs feminist and interdisciplinary approaches in teaching, research, and knowledge advancement. These methodologies emphasize critical analysis, theoretical frameworks, and commitments to both local communities and global society. GWS examines how personal experiences intersect with political structures, while fostering feminist education, academic inquiry, creative work, and community engagement.
The GWS Advisory Committee suggests that students pursuing a Gender and Women's Studies major complement their degree by either completing an 18-credit minor in another field or undertaking a double major, allowing them to merge their GWS focus with a conventional academic discipline.
