The M.S. program offers both research and professional pathways. The research option allows students to complete a thesis (either applied or theoretical) with direct guidance from a faculty mentor. Current studies explore various electrical engineering applications, frequently partnering with the Department of Bioengineering and/or the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. Research initiatives encompass modeling postural control systems, assessing chronic pain patients, designing control methods for cardiac assist devices, interpreting electroencephalograms with source identification, analyzing electrocardiograms, developing remote physiological monitoring systems, and creating implantable biosensors.
