The Master of Science in Social Policy (MSSP) is an intensive eleven-month program consisting of ten courses, designed to equip professionals with the expertise to drive equality, advance equity, and create meaningful social transformation through policy. MSSP alumni are trained for leadership roles across government agencies, philanthropic organizations, research centers, nonprofits, NGOs, and similar institutions by: Grasping the foundational perspectives, principles, and ideologies that shape all policy approaches, Comprehending how social policy decisions develop and evolve across local, state, national, and international contexts, Developing data-driven social reform initiatives that enhance fairness, impact, and operational effectiveness in policy design and execution, and Exploring diverse policy alternatives to tackle societal challenges.
Applicant must have Bachelor’s degree and grade point average that reflects strong academic ability.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
