Intelligent infrastructure and roadways. Ecological observation. Sensor arrays. Integrated solutions. These represent just a fraction of how electrical and systems engineering disciplines are merging, particularly at Penn. The MSE Program in Systems Engineering (SE), rooted at the crossroads of these fields, provides students with the robust theoretical framework and cross-disciplinary expertise needed to address increasingly sophisticated technological challenges. With a customizable course structure, learners can focus on specialized areas ranging from signal analysis, system optimization, modeling, automation, and cybernetics to adaptive networks, probabilistic methods, and analytical decision-making. Alumni hold executive roles at industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin or continue advanced studies at Penn and other top-tier research institutions.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for master’s and doctoral programs must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited School or University prior to intended matriculation date.

A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
