The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) in Scientific Computing (SCMP) program at the University of Pennsylvania delivers interdisciplinary training in computational science principles and their practical uses. This curriculum establishes a strong computational base applicable to diverse scientific fields. The SCMP program features a core curriculum focused on numerical techniques, high-performance computing algorithm design, and big data analytics, while allowing students to concentrate on specific computational specialties. Participants have the option to complete a thesis involving computational research projects within the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
We welcome applications from candidates who have a strong background in physical or theoretical sciences, engineering, math, or computer science. Some experience with computer programming is also strongly recommended.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
