The Counseling and Mental Health Services master's degree serves as a gateway to specialized training in psychology, clinical counseling, educational counseling, and related research fields. This qualification enables graduates to either progress to Penn GSE's Professional Counseling program or pursue doctoral studies elsewhere. Featuring a unique structure, the curriculum integrates theoretical instruction with real-world practicum experiences, molding future practitioners capable of serving diverse populations including youth, college students, families, and adult clients. The program's foundational courses in counseling theories and human growth provide essential preparation for professional development in mental health services and allied disciplines.
Admission to Penn GSE requires satisfactory completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. university or its equivalent prior to your matriculation into any program.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
