The Master of Arts in Mathematics program is designed for students pursuing professional careers in mathematics, with prerequisite knowledge equivalent to an undergraduate mathematics degree. Typically completed in about two years, the program can sometimes be finished sooner. Candidates must complete a minimum of eight graduate-level math courses (numbered 500 or higher), with at least one course in algebra, analysis, and geometry-topology respectively. Additional coursework may include pure or applied mathematics, with some classes permitted from other departments. Requirements also include passing the Graduate Preliminary Exam and successfully defending a master's thesis.
Applicants for admission are expected to have a mathematical background that is comparable to a strong undergraduate mathematics major.
On the TOEFL, we look for total scores of at least 100, and scores of at least 20 on the spoken English portion.
