The East Asian Art History program at Penn explores the artistic and architectural traditions of China, Japan, and Korea, providing comprehensive historical coverage while allowing focused examination of key historical periods. This academic pursuit is enriched by resources from the Penn Museum and Penn's Center for East Asian Studies. Collaborative teaching and advising involve faculty from the History of Art Department, its Graduate Group, East Asian Languages and Civilizations, and the Center. The department grants a Master of Arts degree designed to enhance understanding of art and its analytical methodologies. Alumni with this M.A. have secured curatorial roles in museums, auction houses, and galleries nationwide, while others have advanced to elite Ph.D. programs both domestically and internationally. Faculty provide dedicated mentorship to M.A. candidates, supporting their academic objectives and professional aspirations.
