The Quantitative Methods Ph.D. program equips students for academic careers or key roles in research and assessment institutions. Graduates will gain expertise in designing high-quality empirical studies, conducting data analysis, and advancing methodological innovations. Applicants entering doctoral studies immediately after completing their bachelor's degree will first complete the M.S.Ed. curriculum in Statistics, Measurement, Assessment, and Technology (SMART), followed by advanced Ph.D. coursework. The program emphasizes hands-on experience through independent research projects.
Applicant must have relevant academic and/or experiential background.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
