The Graduate Group in Mediterranean Art and Archaeology prepares students for professional careers in Classical and Near Eastern art and archaeology studies. Utilizing the extensive collections of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, AAMW combines fieldwork, museum training, and academic coursework in a versatile interdisciplinary curriculum offering both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. All admitted students receive full financial support for a minimum of five years. The AAMW faculty comprises renowned scholars representing nearly every significant field of ancient world studies. While most faculty members come from four Arts and Sciences departments - Classical Studies, Art History, Anthropology, and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations - the program also regularly draws on resources from the Center for the Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAAM), the Graduate School of Design, the Center for Ancient Studies, Religious Studies, and the Center for Advanced Judaic Studies. Additionally, AAMW students can enroll in courses at Bryn Mawr, Princeton, and Temple University through Penn's regional academic partnership.
