Systems Engineers offer technical oversight for complex societal challenges that frequently bridge the physical and digital realms. Their expertise applies to advanced fields like self-operating robotics, intelligent infrastructure, nationwide energy distribution systems, worldwide communication networks, efficiency enhancement in services, and biological processes. This discipline represents a collection of versatile mathematical principles, conceptual frameworks, and problem-solving approaches tailored for substantial engineering challenges. These universal methodologies can be customized to address issues across various engineering specialties (including electrical, mechanical, biological, chemical, and computing) while facilitating comprehension, creation, and oversight of multi-domain systems. The field focuses on deriving valuable abstract representations from fundamental components, employing these models for behavioral assessment and forecasting, and utilizing insights to regulate performance while refining solutions. It provides crucial understanding about combining numerous components with distinct behaviors, and guides the design and limitation of individual elements to achieve targeted outcomes in complex integrated systems.

Qualification Requirements

International applicant should have completed a program of secondary education that would enable you to enter a university in your own country (e.g., A-levels, Abitur).

A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
