The Communication major is an evolving, cross-disciplinary field that equips students to navigate the shifting world of media and information exchange. As one of the country's most established programs, the Annenberg School for Communication's bachelor's degree emphasizes communication frameworks, organizations, methodologies, and impacts. Learners develop profound understanding of how messaging influences personal and societal dimensions across political, economic, and cultural spheres, both past and present, from neighborhood to worldwide contexts. Through an array of seminar-style and lecture-based classes, Communication students master both interpretive and statistical research techniques, ranging from personal interviews, content examination, and discussion circles to questionnaires, controlled studies, and information system evaluations. Whether analyzing health campaigns or political rhetoric, online communities or activist initiatives, First Amendment issues or electronic monitoring, our students create academic work that's thorough, timely, and multifaceted in approach.
International applicant should have completed a program of secondary education that would enable you to enter a university in your own country (e.g., A-levels, Abitur).
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
