The Biology Department provides a structured master's degree program specializing in Ecology and Evolution as well as Marine Biology. Students can choose between a course-based or thesis track, though most are accepted into the thesis option. On rare occasions, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology may admit outstanding candidates to the course-only program.
Within the Biology Department, four research institutes operate (the Institute of Molecular Biology, Institute of Neuroscience, Institute of Ecology & Evolution, and Oregon Institute of Marine Biology), collaborating with faculty from diverse fields including Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anthropology, Human Physiology, Physics, Psychology, Environmental Studies, Geography, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
