The University of Oregon's Master of Public Administration (MPA) program emphasizes practical learning, equipping students with professional skills for careers in public service and nonprofit organizations. Through partnerships with various institutions statewide, we provide immersive experiences that enable students to contribute meaningfully to their communities during their studies. Our program cultivates a diverse group of domestic and international students, preparing them to become skilled administrators, analysts, and community advocates. The curriculum bridges theoretical policy research with practical implementation, while allowing students to tailor their coursework for optimal efficiency as full-time or part-time learners. We blend academic rigor in developing analytical and management competencies with extensive experiential learning components.
Our MPA program integrates practical training throughout its curriculum, strengthening the link between academic research and real-world application. It challenges aspiring leaders to examine policy issues critically while producing valuable analyses to inform decision-making. Simultaneously, students learn to evaluate research thoughtfully and apply evidence-based approaches to policy development and administrative implementation. The program's design prioritizes hands-on experience, incorporating community-based projects across various courses. Faculty members reinforce this practical approach to enhance management and policymaking through their scholarly work, community initiatives, and instructional methods.
