The School of Music and Dance boasts the most extensive full-time, on-campus music faculty on the West Coast north of Los Angeles. Rooted in classical traditions, the institution actively encourages the development and presentation of innovative works.
Graduates of this program will achieve the following outcomes: Exhibit mastery in musical performance, with performance studies accounting for up to two-thirds or no less than one-third of the total coursework, Acquire expertise in complementary musical disciplines like music theory, historical studies, musicology, ethnomusicology, and teaching methods. These broadening studies constitute a minimum of one-third of the curriculum, Vocal performance students must achieve fluency in English, German, French, and Italian pronunciation, along with phonetic skills transferable to other languages. They should possess sufficient linguistic ability to comprehend repertoire texts, The program culminates with a public performance showcasing professional mastery, which may serve as the thesis project. Typically, this involves at least a sixty-minute solo recital.
