The Department of German and Scandinavian provides MA and PhD programs in German studies. Graduate candidates work alongside distinguished faculty, acquire instructional skills, and pursue academic interests while partnering with professors on independent research initiatives.
Our master's program in German creates an encouraging atmosphere for scholars examining literary, theoretical, and film studies concerning post-Enlightenment modern thought. With intentionally limited enrollment, each participant receives personalized guidance and professional development while maintaining sufficient size for a comprehensive, rigorous curriculum.
The MA program follows a two-year structure, concentrating on German literary and cultural studies from the Enlightenment onward. Students gain both wide-ranging perspectives for analyzing significant literary and philosophical works and specialized knowledge to produce an MA thesis (or alternatively, two research papers) constituting an innovative scholarly contribution to German studies.
