The Clinical Psychology doctoral program has maintained uninterrupted accreditation from the American Psychological Association since 1958 and holds membership in the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. In May 2013, our clinical program additionally earned accreditation from the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System.
The program follows a clinical scientist approach to graduate education. This framework stresses comprehensive understanding of psychopathology across biological, developmental, social, and cultural dimensions. Doctoral candidates gain expertise in various areas including childhood and adult psychological disorders, cultural diversity, psychological assessment across age groups, and neuropsychological evaluation. All practical training emphasizes empirically supported treatments, covering both clinical application and research methods for creating, executing, and assessing interventions. The curriculum encompasses both therapeutic approaches and preventive strategies. The primary objective of doctoral education is to prepare students for careers blending scientific research with clinical practice. Those primarily seeking clinical training might find other programs better suited than Oregon's research-intensive Clinical Psychology Training Program.
