Oregon's composition program centers around a vibrant artistic community of 40-45 composers across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. Our holistic curriculum combines composition with music theory, historical studies, ethnomusicology, digital media arts, modern performance techniques, cross-disciplinary projects, and professional preparation workshops. This multifaceted yet targeted program equips students for successful careers in composition. The School of Music and Dance's composition department fosters a dynamic creative collective of about 45 student composers at all academic levels. Our integrated curriculum merges compositional training with theoretical foundations, music history, world music studies, technological applications, current performance methods, collaborative multimedia work, and career-focused seminars.
