Water Science & Policy has emerged as a key research and teaching priority for our department, highlighting the growing importance of water-related issues worldwide. This focus area underscores water's critical role in communities from Eugene to Mexico City, as well as in global scenarios like the hydropolitical tensions surrounding the Jordan River. Our curriculum and faculty research explore groundbreaking work on river systems, including how land use practices impact water flow patterns that can dramatically alter erosion rates and flood risks.
Geography majors gain deep insights into how political and natural borders shape power dynamics and disparities, the uneven global distribution of resources, regional variations in environmental impacts, climate change's effects on ecosystems and water supplies, and how our surroundings influence identity and decision-making. Students master in-demand geospatial technologies used across industries, governments, and NGOs worldwide. Through this inquiry and skill development, you'll discover pathways to meaningful environmental and social progress while learning how to contribute effectively.
