The University of Oregon boasts an acclaimed jazz studies program, featuring a cutting-edge curriculum designed to equip students for the dynamic music industry. Our focus on improvisation, composition, and arrangement cultivates adaptable musicians ready to thrive in an ever-shifting professional environment.

The program supports three full jazz orchestras, a specialized Jazz Guitar Ensemble, a Latin Jazz Ensemble, and ten intimate combos - including the prestigious Herbert J. Merker JazzArts Oregon Combo. Following 2008 facility enhancements, students enjoy dedicated jazz drumming spaces, small group practice rooms, and a newly constructed studio for instruction, rehearsals, and recording projects.
