The School of Music and Dance stands as the leading music education institution in the Pacific Northwest. Boasting the most extensive full-time, resident music faculty on the West Coast north of Los Angeles, our distinguished professors regularly perform and conduct research across local, national, and international stages, offering students direct insight into professional artistic and academic careers.
Our curriculum spans diverse areas including music education, performance, pedagogy, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, music history and literature, music technology, and music-focused liberal arts.
For those seeking conservatory-level training, we recommend pursuing either the Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree or a music major with concentrations in music history/literature, music theory, or music technology. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees with general music or popular music studies concentrations cater to students desiring a comprehensive liberal arts education with a music focus. The general music concentration requires about two years of music coursework without audition or portfolio requirements.
