The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) programs in Music cater to students seeking a comprehensive liberal arts education with a music focus. These degrees generally require two to three years of music-related classes. Most tracks, excluding Music Technology, allow enrollment without auditions or portfolio reviews. Our programs cultivate versatile, accomplished scholars and performers—equipped with leadership qualities, intercultural awareness, and strong interpersonal abilities—who emerge as innovative contributors to culture and creative industries.
As the leading music institution in the Pacific Northwest, the School of Music and Dance boasts the most extensive full-time faculty presence on the West Coast north of Los Angeles. Our distinguished instructors regularly engage in performances and academic work across global stages, offering students direct exposure to professional artistic and scholarly practices.
The curriculum spans diverse areas including music education, performance, pedagogy, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, music technology, and interdisciplinary music studies.
For those pursuing intensive conservatory training, the Bachelor of Music (BMus) or specialized concentrations in music history, theory, or technology are recommended. The BA and BS degrees with general music or popular music concentrations provide a liberal arts foundation with musical studies, requiring about two years of coursework without audition prerequisites.
