Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese can choose from three distinct academic tracks: a culture-focused program, a language-focused program, or a linguistics-focused option. These specialized pathways allow students to tailor their studies, though these designations won't appear on official transcripts. Similar academic structures may be referred to as concentrations, specializations, emphases, tracks, or focus areas across different institutions. Our Japanese language courses feature interactive, immersive instruction aimed at developing advanced fluency. The curriculum covers fundamental aspects of Japanese culture, society, literature, and linguistics through both historical and modern lenses. The Japanese major is part of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, which also offers programs in Korean and Chinese studies.
