The University of Oregon's Geography program places strong emphasis on exploring the interconnected realms of Economy, Environment, and Sustainability. Our research spans the spectrum from predominantly physical to largely social aspects of human-environment interactions. Key focus areas include human influences on river ecosystems, urban sustainability across developed and developing nations, wildlife conservation in protected zones, agricultural economies and growth, climate change effects on policies and economic systems, as well as environmental disputes and regulatory frameworks.
Geography majors gain insights into how political and natural borders shape power dynamics and disparities, the varying consequences of resource availability across regions, why certain areas disproportionately contribute to environmental challenges, climate change impacts on ecosystems and water supplies, and how our surroundings shape identity, behavior, and decision-making. Students master sought-after geospatial technologies valued by global businesses, governments, and NGOs. Through this inquiry and methodology, you'll discover pathways to meaningful change and how to contribute effectively.
