The Master of Science programs in geology and geophysics are designed mainly for students pursuing careers in petroleum, mineral industries, environmental and hydrogeological sectors, as well as state and federal government roles. This degree level has historically been preferred for professional practice. Both geology and geophysics M.S. degrees require 26 graduate credit hours plus four thesis credits. These programs aim to equip students for geology or geophysics careers by: (1) offering comprehensive earth science education with related engineering and science coursework, and (2) fostering analytical problem-solving skills through independent thesis research on geological and geophysical challenges.
