The OU Graduate College permits students to work toward two master's degrees simultaneously, provided both academic programs approve the arrangement. Essentially, this requires both departments to consent to counting 12 shared credit hours (typically four courses) toward both degrees. Beyond these shared courses, students must fulfill all other requirements for each degree, including completing two final assessments (which may involve comprehensive exams or a master's thesis). Among LIS students, the most popular dual-degree pairing is with the History of Science program. This option often attracts individuals aiming for careers in science or history of science collections, or those interested in rare books and manuscripts.
