The University of Oklahoma's Economics Department faculty maintains an unwavering dedication to outstanding graduate education. Our program offers a robust foundation in core theoretical and applied economics, preparing students for high-level careers in the field. Since the 1950s, we've awarded over 150 Economics Ph.D. degrees, with alumni achieving notable success in academia, government service, and private industry. Our Ph.D. program features three key components: First, a demanding and cohesive core curriculum covering economic theory and statistical methods. Second, specialized coursework in focus areas such as development economics, industrial organization, international economics, and public finance. Third, comprehensive research training that equips students to conduct independent scholarly work, culminating in an original dissertation. Upon completing these requirements, graduates emerge fully prepared for careers in higher education, professional practice, or public service.
