Exploring communication and technology examines how innovations shape our understanding of space, time, influence, and selfhood, while also transforming how information is shared and raising ethical dilemmas. Both content and delivery methods impact our social environment. Technological access increasingly determines privilege and authority. What cultural and literacy shifts occurred with the rise of mass printing? Historically, which groups were promoted or restricted from reading, and what were the motivations? What explains the original layout of mechanical keyboard letters? How do users input thousands of Chinese characters using compact Western keyboards or mobile devices? In what ways has mobile technology transformed organized crime and insurgent tactics? Air conditioning's emergence led to fewer home porches, diminishing neighborly interactions that once flourished during warm evenings. Digital platforms intentionally blend social and promotional content, rapidly spreading new ideas—including marketing and political outreach. The CDC collaborates with Facebook to track illness patterns, as affected individuals often post about symptoms online, providing early detection of potential outbreaks. Meanwhile, illicit activities proliferate through online channels. Digital finance, healthcare data storage, and similar advancements intensify concerns about personal privacy.
