Petroleum geology is a specialized branch of earth sciences focused on studying the formation, location, discovery, extraction, and utilization of hydrocarbon deposits. Professionals in this field encompass various disciplines, including petroleum geologists, exploration geophysicists, organic geochemists, sedimentologists, tectonic specialists, and fossil experts. This discipline examines three key components: 1) organic-rich source rocks that generate hydrocarbons, 2) subsurface geological features and layers that enable petroleum accumulation (through traps and seals), and 3) porous underground rock formations that contain oil and gas deposits (known as reservoirs).

Admission to the University of Oklahoma is based on completion of a rigorous secondary school curriculum, demonstrated by a recognized certificate of completion that would qualify you for entrance into a university in your country.

Applicants must submit official transcripts from each institution attended.
Freshman must submit official transcripts from all secondary or middle schools attended. If secondary school in your country includes standardized graduation exams and certificates, official copies of these should be submitted.
All freshman applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation, two additional letters may be submitted.
