The University of Oklahoma launched its graduate computer science program in 1969 through the Information and Computing Sciences department, initially overseen by the Provost until joining the College of Engineering in 1972. The undergraduate computer science program commenced in 1976, integrating into what was then called the School of Electrical Engineering, later renamed to include Computer Science. The institution awarded its first master's degree in 1972, followed by a doctorate in 1973, and its inaugural bachelor's degree during the 1979-80 academic year. Computer Science continued as part of this school until 1992 when it became the independent School of Computer Science. In Spring 2010, the school relocated to Devon Energy Hall, a state-of-the-art facility spanning five floors and 103,000 square feet, featuring cutting-edge technology in classrooms, collaborative spaces, laboratories, and research areas to serve current and future students.
