OU's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a strong foundation for advanced academic work, serving as the entry point for those curious about communication systems and related disorders. Learners begin their journey at OU's Norman campus, spending two years on general education requirements and biological science coursework. In their sophomore year, students become eligible to apply for the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, situated in Oklahoma City's medical district. Here, students gain comprehensive knowledge about human communication mechanisms, associated disorders, and therapeutic interventions. Most program graduates continue their education in Audiology, Deaf Education, or Speech-Language Pathology graduate programs when aiming for clinical practice or research-oriented careers.
