The Chemistry (Professional) major is ideal for students aiming to continue their education with a graduate degree after completing their bachelor's. It features the most demanding chemistry curriculum. This professional track also serves as an excellent starting point for those uncertain about their long-term academic goals, as transitioning to either the Chemistry Standard or Biochemistry programs is simpler—even in the final year—than moving to the professional option from other tracks. The American Chemical Society endorses the Chemistry (Professional) degree for graduate school preparation, and it offers the strongest foundation for students entering chemistry-related careers post-graduation. While not mandatory for advanced studies in chemistry or biochemistry, some students opt for alternative degree paths to accommodate non-chemistry courses aligned with their professional aspirations. For instance, those targeting pharmaceutical research or biochemistry careers might benefit from extra coursework in microbiology or zoology. The Professional degree mandates 40 credit hours of chemistry courses beyond General Chemistry requirements.
