A classics degree introduces students to the primary languages, key literary works, and societies of ancient Greece and Rome. Beyond exploring these early civilizations, classics students also examine how classical traditions have influenced Western literature, arts, and broader culture. The program emphasizes essential skills for the modern era: effective speaking and writing, analytical reasoning, and information processing. Classics scholars delve into the linguistics, writings, customs, and historical developments of Greek and Roman antiquity. Our department provides bachelor's programs in classical studies, classical languages, and Latin, along with minor options in classical civilization, Greek, or Latin studies.
