Mandarin Chinese has been classified as a crucial strategic language by the U.S. government following the events of September 11. Global demand for Mandarin proficiency across various industries highlights its growing significance. Trade relations with China are expanding rapidly, creating opportunities beyond business sectors. Mandarin skills are becoming essential for diverse professions worldwide, such as translation/interpretation, government intelligence analysis, border security, diplomatic services, language education, and tourism. At OU's Chinese program, students develop comprehensive language abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while gaining cultural understanding through literature courses and study abroad experiences that explore China's society and traditions.
