The Instrument Studies division provides a Master of Music performance degree with concentrations in: violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and multiple woodwind instruments. Our students and alumni have earned accolades in top-tier competitions across all musical styles and secured professional roles in orchestras, wind ensembles, and academic institutions worldwide.
When you enroll in UNT's Instrumental Performance graduate program, you become part of a distinguished network of musicians who have triumphed in international competitions and hold prestigious positions with symphony orchestras, concert bands, and music conservatories globally.
A defining feature of our program is the personalized mentorship from acclaimed performers and educators. Our Instrumental Studies division boasts 34 full-time and 20 adjunct faculty members, including artists from renowned ensembles like the Dallas Symphony and Fort Worth Symphony. As one of America's most extensive music institutions, we provide unique opportunities to engage with leading musicians through exclusive lectures and events.
Admission to our 32-credit program requires demonstration of a senior recital-level performance. Applicants must also audition with three significant works: (1) an 18th-century contrapuntal piece, (2) a complete sonata by classical masters, and (3) another standard repertoire selection - all performed from memory.
