Cultivate your artistic vision while exploring the diverse possibilities within modern drawing and painting. This comprehensive, intensive terminal degree program prioritizes intellectual and creative development through artistic practice, equipping students for lifelong achievement and significant cultural impact. The curriculum fosters critical thinking and artistic advancement through disciplined studio work, while tailoring to each student's unique requirements by refining conceptual, aesthetic, and technical abilities. The M.F.A. in Studio Art with a Drawing and Painting specialization combines creative exploration, modern theory, and hands-on practice, culminating in a thesis exhibition.

Within the College of Visual Arts and Design, students experience interdisciplinary approaches while immersing themselves in critical fine arts practice. Located at a top-tier research university, CVAD offers proximity to Dallas and Fort Worth's dynamic cultural centers alongside Denton's flourishing art community.

Our graduate faculty consists of practicing artists, critics, and educators with national and international recognition for their scholarly and creative work. The studio art professors are dedicated mentors who help students achieve their full potential. We celebrate the varied research approaches and artistic processes in our program, as well as the accomplishments of our M.F.A. alumni who influence the field through creative investigation, academic study, and innovation. The Drawing and Painting concentration merges artistic research, contemporary theory, and practical application, concluding with a solo exhibition and oral defense.
