Enhance your skills in visual storytelling and develop compelling nonfiction narratives through our M.F.A. in documentary production and studies.
The Media Arts Department provides graduate studies culminating in a Master of Fine Arts degree. Our unique M.F.A. program, specializing in documentary production and studies, stands out as one of the few nationwide and the only regional program of its kind. You'll work with professional-grade HD cameras, audio equipment, and post-production systems while participating in intensive production projects and exploring the historical and theoretical aspects of global documentary filmmaking. The M.F.A. has become the premier terminal degree for production faculty at U.S. colleges and universities.
This M.F.A. program in Documentary Production and Studies focuses on developing professional expertise through academic, artistic, and technical training. As one of the nation's rare programs emphasizing documentary studies, our regional-exclusive curriculum concludes with a documentary thesis project supported by a comprehensive written thesis. An internship is mandatory, and international study/research opportunities are highly recommended.
