Achieving success as a conductor requires skills beyond just mastering baton techniques. Launch your doctoral journey in conducting at the prestigious University of North Texas College of Music. The Division of Conducting and Ensembles provides a curriculum for earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance with a conducting specialization. Tailor your education to choral, orchestral, or wind conducting based on your professional goals. Gain practical experience by directing multiple ensembles year-round. UNT's performance groups feature six choirs, two symphony orchestras, and seven wind ensembles that frequently perform in seasonal concerts and at regional, national, and global venues.

Our faculty consists of seasoned professionals with international experience, having worked with diverse groups from the Southeast Asian Youth Wind Ensemble in Bangkok to ensembles across Austria, China, the UK, and South Korea. Qualification Requirements

Official transcripts are required from every college or university you have attended and must arrive by the application deadline. The transcripts must show you have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent).
Applicants for admission to the M.M. or D.M.A. degree programs in performance or Graduate Artist Certificate in Music Performance (GAC) must pass an admission audition before a faculty panel.
Apply for admission to the College of Music through the online application for admission, audition, scholarship, fellowship and assistantships
Submit the following materials through the music application:
Resume providing complete information concerning the musical training and experience of the applicant
Repertoire lists representing the following: works the applicant has studied, works the applicant is prepared to conduct, and, works the applicant has previously conducted
Face-to-the-camera, high-quality video recording of the applicant conducting, include if possible excerpts from both a rehearsal and a performance
A written analysis of a movement from a major tonal work on the applicant's repertoire list
Statement of career objectives (can be included as part of the resume or a separate document)
Three letters of recommendation
Evaluation of transcripts from previous degree
