At UNT, our Criminal Justice program equips students with essential knowledge and abilities to foster justice and safety. Graduates are prepared for demanding roles in various fields including law enforcement, corrections, judicial services, nonprofit organizations, as well as private sector positions in loss prevention, corporate security, and investigations.

The Criminal Justice Department excels in education, research, and community service. Our distinguished faculty includes nationally renowned scholars who develop interdisciplinary approaches to address crime and societal challenges while promoting community safety. The program's curriculum covers theoretical foundations, practical applications, and empirical research in criminal justice, preparing you for professional careers or advanced studies. Course topics encompass: Public policy in criminal justice, Legal processes and criminal law, Theories of criminology, Ethics and diversity in justice systems, America's historical crime and justice evolution, Law enforcement and correctional institutions, Research methodologies.

Through our Criminal Justice Internship Program, you can earn academic credit while gaining hands-on experience. Certain classes feature practical learning in correctional facilities or court settings, or include community service components. Specialized electives and seminars let you concentrate on specific interests, with additional opportunities for international study programs.

High school/Secondary school
Graduation + 3 years attendance (includes U.S. Department of Defense school)
College/University
Completion of Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree
Completion of two university-level, academic English courses (excludes English as a Second Language courses) for a total of 6 credit hours with a grade of C or higher in both courses
Completion of 30+ hours of university-level, academic coursework with an overall GPA of 2.25 or equivalent. Student must be enrolled at the time of application and must have maintained continuous enrollment prior to their transfer to UNT.
