Develop your expertise in design and technology while mastering the backstage artistry that brings theater and film to life. This program focuses on design and technical skills, equipping students for professional careers in scenic, lighting, sound, props, and costume design, stage management, set construction, and other theater production fields. As part of UNT's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Department of Dance & Theatre provides a varied curriculum that balances academic rigor with practical performance experience.

The theater program features a range of foundational courses covering multiple theater disciplines. Following core requirements, students can tailor their studies—either pursuing a broad-based degree or specializing in performance, design/technology, or theater education. Our distinguished faculty includes Emmy-nominated professionals, acclaimed Edward Albee scholars, and a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award-winning costume designer. Student groups like Drama Lab and the Alpha Psi Omega honor society offer performance and networking platforms. Our facilities feature:

Qualification Requirements

Submit official transcripts showing courses, graduation, and/or degree earned from:
High school/Secondary school
Graduation + 3 years attendance (includes U.S. Department of Defense school)
College/University
Completion of Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree
Completion of two university-level, academic English courses (excludes English as a Second Language courses) for a total of 6 credit hours with a grade of C or higher in both courses
Completion of 30+ hours of university-level, academic coursework with an overall GPA of 2.25 or equivalent. Student must be enrolled at the time of application and must have maintained continuous enrollment prior to their transfer to UNT.
