Develop a comprehensive grasp of Latino history and culture's significance. Businesses, schools, government entities, and various organizations seek professionals capable of enhancing their competitive advantage in today's global marketplace, particularly those with expertise in Hispanic/Latino communities. Explore the rich cultural heritage, historical developments, economic factors, political landscapes, linguistic aspects, literary works, social structures, anthropological perspectives, economic systems, and artistic achievements of Hispanic/Latino populations.
Beyond the standard university requirements, students enroll in four core courses, select four electives spanning at least two of three specialized areas, and complete either an internship or senior thesis. The mandatory courses establish fundamental knowledge about Latino/a socioeconomic and political realities in the U.S., while the elective concentrations allow for deeper exploration of Latina/o studies in: Cultural and humanistic expressions, Governance and political systems, or Heritage country examinations.
