The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program provides an educational route for bachelor's degree holders with minimal or no teaching background. This MAT in Physical Education & Health, a collaborative effort between the Watson College of Education and the College of Health and Human Services, equips you for teaching, coaching, and leadership roles in K-12 schools or community colleges. Delivered through distance learning, the program blends online coursework with hands-on training. Our curriculum is meticulously structured to ensure graduates are workplace-ready, offering practical experience in public schools, an action research component, and a professional teaching portfolio aligned with PEH specialization goals and state/national educator standards.
In their last term, candidates engage in full-time student teaching with mentorship from experienced educators and academic supervisors. Upon fulfilling all program and certification requirements, graduates earn both a master's degree and North Carolina teaching credentials in Physical Education and Health. Our program boasts strong job placement success and ongoing career support for alumni.
