The Master of Science (M.S.) in Chemistry program immerses students in rigorous academic study and cutting-edge research alongside distinguished faculty members. Participants gain expertise in chemical and biochemical concepts essential for innovating solutions to critical issues in healthcare, education, sustainability, and energy production.
The 30-credit curriculum covers all core chemistry disciplines (analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical), specialized electives, and requires an original research thesis completed under faculty supervision.
The department boasts exceptional educators, with faculty honors including two UNCG Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards, four College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Excellence recognitions, and one UNC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence distinction.
Faculty research receives support from prestigious organizations including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, N.C. Biotechnology Center, and American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund.
This program holds accreditation from the American Chemical Society.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools.
English Language Proficiency: TOEFL: internet based - 79, or paper based - 550. A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS.
