The Master of Arts in Dance Education caters to public school dance instructors and professional dancers with full-time employment. This graduate program blends artistic development with academic rigor, merging practical training, creative exploration, and scholarly research. Currently, enrollment is open only during even-numbered summer terms, with applications due each March for summer admission.
This curriculum specifically serves full-time dance educators working with diverse public school populations. We highly recommend applicants complete at least one year of full-time K-12 teaching before enrollment, as many coursework requirements involve teaching public school students or comparable groups. The program isn't suitable for instructors working exclusively in conventional commercial or professional studio settings.
For candidates possessing an initial North Carolina Dance teaching license (Standard Professional I), there's an option to simultaneously pursue the advanced M license alongside their degree. This pathway isn't available to students without the initial teaching certification.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools.
English Language Proficiency: TOEFL: internet based - 79, or paper based - 550. A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS.
